This gym is actually terrible. I’m only using this gym because they have a kids club. I wish the kids club hours were better. So many times they were closed. I expressed that it’s frustrating that you don’t know it’s closed until you get there. I said to the guy at the front desk that it’s enough for me to cancel. Like I’m paying for something I can’t use. Most of the treadmills are usually broken and the free weight area is always crammed. The women’s bathroom is filthy. If planet fitness had a kids club I would for sure go back where it’s clean and the equipment works!
If you are interested in the private training I advise finding a 3rd party trainer to meet you there. I signed a year contract for 1 session per week. Even though I paid for the year. At the end of the year, I had 40 sessions left over. Mind you THEY WERE ALREADY PAID FOR. They continuously charged my account $200 a few months later. The PT Manager whose name starts with an M wouldn't return ANY of my calls to resolve the issue. I had to call corporate. Thank goodness Karen S helped refund $200 out of the $600 taken out of my account and she stayed on the phone with me after the run around that has been my experience of calling my gym, and several in person visit during hours I was told to come in to resolve the issue. The membership packages are predatorial and cancelation is difficult. My overall customer service experience was poor over a 3 month period of no follow up and misinformation. This seems like a system issue rather than any individual. I would not recommend it. I still have $400 that was charged well after my original cancelation.
Thanks to Karen for doing what she could.
Overall I'm displeased with the communication and lack of follow-through from this establishment.
I get it’s cold outside but no need for heat to be on to the level it is specially how it feels upstairs with cardio machines. Also in the summer it’s like we don’t turn on enough A/C. Fix and I will update review accordingly.
Put a review up a few months ago about the equipment and facility being dirty. Well must say they heard me. The equipments are in much better shape and the staff more friendly. The pool area and the pool itself is not as clean as I would like it so I avoid that area until they address it. Ring around inside pool and the paramitor around the pool exterior that used to be white is very dirty. Cleanliness is top priority for me. Dont think it would pass inspection if inspected today by health dept.
Lauren was super helpful in helping me with a mix up at the gym. I’ve never had a bad experience at this location.
Trying to cancel the membership here is hell. Been trying for a week and I keep getting the run around about a manager being on vacation one day. Another day about the manager can only cancel 9-5. Finally, the manager calls the police because he doesn't want to cancel the membership. Be prepared to fight to cancel the membership.
Review update on 8/11/20 -- We tried to talk with the GM Stacy G. about freezing our membership because the person we spoke to yesterday wasn't able to help us. Right off the bat, Stacy was extremely rude, very unprofessional and when asking to get the information for coporate to escalate the issue she hung up on us!!! How does she have this position when she treats paying members like trash? COVID is no joke and for those of us who are immunocompromised, we can't risk going to a gym where under pre-pandemic conditons lacked a consistent level of hygienic practices. Now, on the phone with corporate, so far it's been over 23 minutes and still waiting for someone to answer -- very poor customer service.
Previous review -- This location is much smaller than other LA Fitness locations I've visited or worked out in. It's often crowded during prime time hours which is expected (think before and after normal working hours), and because of this if you're doing weights you'll wait as there is not nearly enough equipment for the amount of people.
Also, while there are some people with good gym etiquette, most people don't using weights so they are often all over the gym and often not where they belong. Speaking of etiquette, it's a toss up on people wiping down equipment before and after use. I do and it really bothers me when others don't. Hygiene is super important, especially in the gym.
Back to overcrowding, as of writing this review, there are apartments under construction across the LA Fitness parking lot, which also doesn't have enough space during busy hours. I can only imagine how much busier this location will get then. So why do I come here? This is literally one of two gyms near me and of the two, it's the cleanest.
Other positives: They've made an improvement on the staff who greets you, as in they actually greet you when coming in. Also, I do love the spin classes and body and tone classes and the instructors who teach each. They are super inspiring and motivational. I just wish there were more of them and they weren't super packed. Finding space or a bike is super hard sometimes, so come early!
So would I recommend coming here? Yes, when it comes to the people, facility, equipment (during less busy hours) and classes. No, if you're looking for more ameneties, including longer hours, more classes and a less crowded location.
